Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced her retirement from politics.
Ms Palaszczuk first entered into politics in 2006 and was elected Queensland Premier in 2015, becoming the first female politician to become a state premier from Opposition.
Ms Palaszczuk, who will officially step down from the role next Friday, says she is proud to have lead a ministry made up of women in its majority.
"I'm also proud to have lead a government of women. That values women. That gave women the right to choose. During the pandemic, I had press conferences nearly every day, alongside the police commissioner and the chief health officer. All women."
A number of people from the politics paid made tribute to Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, following the announcement of her retirement.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has released a statement, in which he called Ms Palaszczuk a "Labor hero", citing her three election victories and her leadership skills.
Senator Murray Watt has congratulated Ms Palaszczuk for her eight years in her role as Queensland Premier via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Queensland Opposition leader David Chrisaffuli has put aside political differences, saying Ms Palaszczuk as a leader of the state is worthy of respect.
The United Nations says over 50 per cent of those remaining in Gaza are now facing the threat of starvation as the ongoing war has made it almost impossible to deliver necessary aid.
The main UN agency in Gaza says hospitals are being overrun with food shortages becoming a major issue.
The UN's Security Council voted to call for an immediate ceasefire in the region, but the vote was ultimately blocked by the US.
Mohammed Yusra one of the residents of Gaza, says the situation has become desperate.
"It's hard to live, we can't do anything. There is no cooking gas, or wheat, the bread which is with us for the past for days, we heat it up for kids to eat. We are under siege, we can't go to the south. There is no canned food, no rice. Our life is a hell. We can sometimes get bread for children, sometimes we go around the tents to get a bread."
According to the Australian Federal Police, traffickers smuggling illicit drugs into Australia by ship have been put on notice following a spate of major busts, rescue calls and a death.
AFP Crime Command Detective Superintendent Anthony Conway says criminals are increasingly turning to at sea imports, where illicit drugs are smuggled into Australian waters on ships and dropped in the ocean for retrieval by local crews.
Mr Conway says hiding the drugs on the hull of a cargo ship under the waterline or inside the vessel's sea chest cavity where divers submerge to retrieve the goods was also common.
Authorities are on high alert and have thwarted several plots in the past year with several people needing to be rescued after hitting trouble on the water.
Argentina's new right-wing government and its leader Javier Milei are set to be sworn in on Sunday.
Milei plans to push forward a number of radical changes, including cutting down on government spending and switching the Argentinian peso currency in favour for the U-S dollar.
However, the right-wing leader appears to have little support in congress and the Senate, and no regional governors from his own party.
The nation is hoping for change after being crippled by a growing inflation rate, which topped an annual 140 per cent, coupled with a 40 per cent poverty rate.
RMIT University Professor of Economics Alberto Posso has told SBS that the new government will need to address these issues as soon as possible.
"We need to have the social spending, hand-in-hand with a slowdown in government expenditure, hand-in-hand with a cutdown in inflation. And putting down inflationary pressures. And as long as these things aren't aligned, we're unlikely to see it properly succeed because things can become chaotic quite quickly, especially in the Argentinian context."

Keacy Carty has hit a half-century and Matthew Forde took three wickets as West Indies claimed a four-wicket win to clinch their first home one-day international series victory over England since 1998.
Chasing a reduced score of 188 in 34 overs at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, West Indies appeared to have got off to the perfect start as Carty combined with Alick Athanaze for a 76-run partnership, but spinner Will Jacks tore through their middle order.
Jacks picked up three key wickets as West Indies slumped from 1-78 to 6-135.
With his side reeling, Romario Shepherd hit a crucial 41 to push them over the finish line with 14 balls to spare.
