A superannuation industry leader says a mother of two will be almost $15,000 better off come retirement under the federal government's plan to add superannuation to paid parental leave.
An additional 12 per cent payment of superannuation will be added to the government's parental leave payment from July next year.
Currently, women retire with 30 per cent less super than men.
CEO of the Super Members Council Misha Schubert says the whole country will benefit from this scheme.
"We know that for a mother of two across the course of her working life, she accesses the scheme twice, is likely to be $14,500 better off at retirement. That will make a powerful difference both to those individual women and to the country."
Australian farmers are seeking stricter rules for supermarkets as a parliamentary inquiry looks at pricing in the sector.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is undertaking a year-long review into the grocery sector, examining pricing practices, and the relationship between wholesale and retail prices.
Farmers are demanding significant penalties to crack down on supermarkets overcharging consumers while undercutting farmers.
Jeremy Griffith from the National Farmers Federation says producers often have no option but to accept the prices supermarkets offer.
"The issue for our sector is our product is perishable. Once it's picked, once it's ripe, the clock starts ticking. If it's not sold within a certain timeframe, it rots and it becomes worthless. The supermarket's are acutely aware of this issue and it allows them to offer rock bottom and as the ACCC describes it, take it or leave at prices, knowing full well that the growers have almost no choice but to accept the price that is on the table."
