Socceroos' coach Tony Popovic says he's very proud with Australia's 2-0 win against Türkiye.

He has told SBS he's happy the team put a smile on the faces of fans who travelled to watch the game in Canada's Vancouver B-C Place stadium.

"Proud of the staff for the work they put in and some good decisions there sideline. I tried to guide them, tried to support the players and they were outstanding."

Nestory Irankunda who scored the first goal in the 27th minute, echoed a similar sentiment.

He told SBS after the match that it's a dream come true.

"We worked extra hard, we fought till the end and it's just an exciting moment, you've got to thank the staff, got to thank the nation, they all have the belief in me to do so well and you know I feel like today, getting that goal it's amazing."

Meanwhile, Socceroos fan Heath has told SBS they're excited and looking forward to Australia getting through the group stage.

"I have very high hopes for Socceroos, for the World Cup, fingers crossed that Australia and Paraguay will get through and kick out the USA in their own home game. I have faith that we're going to be able to do that.  I'm really excited to see what our new blood can bring to the game."

Australia will next face USA on June 20 at 0500am AEST.

Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon have intensified, ahead of an anticipated peace deal between the US and Iran, which is likely to include military activity in Lebanon.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency is reporting at least four people have been killed in airstrikes on the Nabatiyeh district that have caused widespread destruction.

The Lebanese Health Ministry reports more than 3,700 people have been killed in Lebanon in the latest fighting, as Israel targets Iran-backed Hezbollah militants.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says 30 Israeli soldiers and a defence contractor have been killed in or near southern Lebanon, and two civilians have been killed in northern Israel since March.

US President Donald Trump has reacted to reports of further Israeli attacks in Lebanon, voicing concerns they could compromise a deal with Iran to end the war.

Iran has threatened a military response, as the Israeli Defence Force struck Hezbollah targets in Beirut overnight [[Sun to Mon AEST]].

Posting on Truth social media, the president wrote; "We are very close to a Deal that will bring peace to the region. Let's not blow it!"

The US leader insists Iran will sign a deal within coming hours [[Mon 6am AEST]], but Iran will not confirm the timing.

The UN's Secretary General echoed the message, releasing a statement around the same time, writing; "I urge all parties to show maximum restraint at this crucial moment."

Surf lifesaving New South Wales has launched an urgent bid to be able to fly drones over Sydney beaches, to detect sharks from the air.

There is currently a large exclusion zone for drones and other aircraft, which applies to airspace over a number of beaches including Coogee - where a woman was attacked by a shark on the weekend.

New South Wales Agriculture Minister Tara Moriarty says nothing is off the table in the state's plans to keep beachgoers safe from attacks.

"I have asked the department to provide me with urgent advice about how we can expand our shark management program in New South Wales. We already have a 30 million dollar that we rolled out and expanded in the summer, following earlier shark attacks. We put an additional six million dollars into that program over the summer, to expand the use of drones."

A 35 year-old woman is in hospital with severe limb injuries, after being attacked while swimming off Coogee beach on Saturday morning.

The Federal Government has confirmed it will not extend the fuel excise cut beyond June 30.

The fuel excise was temporarily halved, slashing 26 cents per litre, in response to soaring global oil prices caused by the war in the Middle East.

After the $2.5 billion measure expires, motorists and businesses will be paying more than 30 cents per litre for petrol, and more than 60 cents per litre more for diesel.

Former leader of the National Party, David Littleproud, told Channel Nine even if the conflict in the Middle East is resolved imminently, motorists will be paying more for fuel for months.

"We're at the end of a supply chain here, and it will take time for that to follow through into our prices. And while the consumer may see that, what I'm worried about is the transport industry and there is a need to give support to the transport industry."

Brunson fought back tears after the win, saying he was in awe of the victory.

He was also named NBA Finals MVP.
