G7 leaders are expected to discuss the finer points of a peace deal between the US and Iran at meetings today and tomorrow.

European nations have already expressed support for an end to the conflict in the Middle East, but reiterated their priority that Iran is not able to acquire a nuclear weapon.

At a media appearance with French President Emmanuel Macron, President Donald Trump says the deal has already been signed, ahead of the official signing ceremony with Iran in Switzerland this Friday.

"And the Strait is already partially opened. As you know, they're doing a little hunting for some mines which they've already found. But ships are already starting and on Friday it will be completely opened."

Iran's foreign minister says the nation is not pursuing a toll for naval passage through the Strait of Hormuz but would not be drawn on further details of the negotiations.

There are concerns Israel's ongoing military campaign in Lebanon could jeopardise a peace deal between the US and Iran.

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the deal was made without his government's input and the Israeli military will continue its campaign against Iran-backed militant group, Hezbollah, in southern Lebanon.

The deal - which was mediated by Pakistan - calls for an end to military operations on all fronts of the war - including in Lebanon.

Esmail Baghaei, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman says the United States will be held accountable for any attacks by Israel in violation of the deal - the details of which are not public.

"The US is committed and has a duty to honour its side of the memorandum of understanding. The American side is responsible for any breach of agreement by other players or US allies in the region."

A new report reveals a record number of Australians died from drug-induced causes in 2024.

Unintentional drug related deaths climbed beyond two thousand people in a single year for the first time in Australian history.

Analysis by the Penington Institute, a non-profit organisation established to reduce drug-related harm, found the number represents a 10 per cent jump in a single year.

Penington Institute CEO John Ryan says nation can no longer afford to ignore what has become one of Australia’s most urgent public health emergencies.

All eight people on board a military plane that crashed in California are feared dead.

A US B-52 bomber crashed shortly after take-off overnight while embarking on a test mission from the Edwards Air Force Base.

To sport now and in football,

Belgium has drawn with Egypt in its first outing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The sides had an entertaining game, with both sides a chance for a win at Seattle Stadium.

But ultimately, many fans likely walked away disappointed, including a crowd of Belgium supporters who shared high hopes of a win before the match.

"This is my first time in the World Cup so it's going to be very excited for this show so I'm very happy to be here. And I'm here with Belgium, you know. Go Belgium. Go Lukaku, go Doku, we're with you. Seattle is with you, all right?"

Both Belgium and Egypt are expected to progress out of the group stage, with New Zealand and Iran the other two teams in their group and they will go in as favourites against both.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay have drawn 1-all at a game in Miami.
