In this bulletin;
  • Joe Biden opens the NATO meeting in Washington;
  • Claims more than one in five Australians has perpetrated sexual violence as an adult;
  • And in sport, Spain into the final of Euro 2024.
US President Joe Biden has opened the NATO Summit with a closely-watched speech.

He touted the bloc's achievements, reflecting on its 75 years of history, and announced a historic donation of air defence equipment for Ukraine.

Biden has faced mounting pressure to drop out of the presidential race, over concerns about his age and mental fitness.

The 81-year-old has sought to project strength and unity at the NATO event, where dozens of world leaders are in attendance.

"The fact that NATO remains the bulwark of global security did not happen by accident. It wasn't inevitable. Again and again, at critical moments, we chose unity over disunion, progress over retreat, freedom over tyranny, hope over fear. Again and again we stood behind our shared vision of a peaceful and prosperous trans-Atlantic community. Here at this summit, we gather to proclaim - NATO is ready and able to secure that vision today and well into the future."

Russia is claiming that it was not behind the fatal attack on Kyiv's main children hospital.

Instead, it claims that it was a stray Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile that hit the hospital, killing two people.

Russia has not provided any evidence for the claim.

The United Nations rejects the claim, saying there is a high likelihood the hospital took a direct hit from a Russian missile.

Ukraine's security service says it has unequivocal evidence the Okhmadyt children's hospital was hit by a Russian KH 101 cruise missile.

But Russia's Ambassador to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, claims the fact the hospital was not completely destroyed is proof Russia was not behind the attack on it.

“Indeed, if the Russian missile that was targeted to the military object would hit the hospital, then the hospital would be completely destroyed. I mean, I'm not rejoicing at whatever victims or the wounded were in the hospital at the time of the strike. Moreover, that it was the Ukrainians themselves that did it."

41 people were killed in a series of air strikes on Ukrainian cities.

A new study shows more than one-in-five Australians has admitted perpetrating some form of sexual violence as an adult.

The Australian Institute of Criminology study is based on self-reported data from 5,000 people aged between 18 and 45.

It has found that the most common forms of sexual violence included pressuring someone to go out on a date, manipulating someone into having sex, and non-consensual kissing and touching.

Around 2.7 per cent of people admitted to perpetrating sexual intercourse without consent.

The study found that sexual violence was committed overwhelmingly by men against women.

The findings come as the number of sexual assault cases reported to police surged 11 per cent in June.

Ten organisations representing Australians with disability are condemning the federal government's decision to exclude sex work from the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the NDIS.

Sex work paid for by the scheme has been available since a Federal Court ruling in 2020.

But the minister responsible for the scheme, Bill Shorten, has promised to scrap access to sex work paid for by the scheme.

He says it doesn't pass the standards of the average Australian.

But in a joint statement, the groups say such a move would undermine disabled people's right to fully participate in all aspects of life.

They say sexual services provide outlets for people with a disability to build positive relationships with their bodies, as well as self-expression and pleasure.

In football, Spain is the first team into the final of Euro 2024 after beating France, two goals to one, in their semi-final in Munich.

Sixteen year-old Lamine Yamal starred, becoming the youngest player to score at a major tournament.

His goal, in the 21st minute, levelled the game, after Randall Kolo Muani had put France in front very early in proceedings.

Dani Olmo put Spain in front with a goal in the 25th minute, and there they stayed.

Spain will play either England or the Netherlands in the final.
