Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to reveal the finalised Cabinet for his government's second term after a bruising breakout of factional warfare.

The finalised ministerial line-up is anticipated this afternoon after Labor locked down more than 90 seats in a convincing election victory.

Ed Husic and Mark Dreyfus are the only sitting M-Ps to be removed from the Labor frontbench, prompting Mr Husic to publicly speculate his vocal stance on the war in Gaza may have contributed to his demotion.

Meanwhile returning frontbencher Tanya Plibersek has Channel 7 she is grateful for her position in politics.

"My parents came to Australia as refugees after the second world war and I got elected to the Australian Parliament. Every day that I am there, I consider just the most enormous privilege and to actually be a member of the executive is beyond anything that I ever anticipated in my life."

David Littleproud says he is confident of holding on to the Nationals party leadership amid a challenge from Queensland senator Matt Canavan.

Mr Littleproud says he welcomes the challenge, telling Nine News that his colleague should be applauded for having the courage to put up his hand.

"We shouldn't get upset about democracy taking place. This is healthy for our democracy. We shouldn't scorn it."

The Senator says his opposition to cutting Australia's greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2050, and his outspoken nature, have given him recognition within the party and in the regions.

He has told Nine he wants to give the coalition a fighting chance at the next election after Australian voters delivered them their worst defeat since World War Two.

"Perhaps the original sin of the campaign that we put forward was that we were telling the country things were really bad, but then we weren't proposing any radical changes to make it better. And those two things didn't add up."

A psychiatrist who stopped medicating the man who would become one of Australia's worst mass killers is to be questioned at the Bondi stabbing inquest today.

It's understood the doctor, who cannot be legally identified, gradually weaned Joel Cauchi off his anti-psychotic medication after he complained of the side-effects.

Counsel assisting Peggy Dwyer SC says the inquest hopes to uncover how Cauchi became completely detached from the state's mental health system by early 2020, despite being successfully treated in the public and then the private system after being diagnosed with schizophrenia as a teen.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has agreed to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Turkiye for direct talks.

The Russian president proposed the meeting in a night-time televised address.

Putin's statement has come hours after major European powers demanded in Kyiv that Putin agree to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire or face "massive" new sanctions, a position that Trump's Ukraine envoy Keith Kellogg has also endorsed.

Millions of Filipinos are taking to the polls today in mid-term elections that could determine the political fate of impeached Vice President Sara Duterte.

Twelve senators who are selected today will form half the jury in Ms Duterte's July impeachment trial, with the vice president accused of engaging in an assassination plot against sitting Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos.

Filipinos living overseas have been allowed to vote online for the first time this year, with SBS Filipino program speaking with expats living in New South Wales.

Community leader Rod Dingle has lived in Australia for close to 20 years and says living outside the Philippines can offer more insight into the reality of politics there.

"I guess while you are in the Philippines, you observe, you notice, you see, you experience things you wouldn't normally otherwise be aware of until you get out of the country."

Eurovision has officially begun in Switzerland, with musical acts from 37 countries walking the turquoise carpet in Basel.

The first knock-out rounds begin tomorrow [[Tue 13 May]] when five countries entrants will be booted after the semi finals.

Australia's entrant Marty Zambotto goes by the stage name 'Go-Jo'.

"Well I think the world is always in need of positivity and smiles and happiness. Knowing that my song can provide a little bit of that it makes me very happy and warm inside. And I think that, as a human being, knowing that I can make someone's journey a little bit lighter and a little bit more happy, that makes me smile a lot."

A teenager armed with a knife and fake gun has been caught trying to enter an AFL match, just weeks after two men were allegedly stopped with genuine firearms.

Authorities say the items were found after the 15-year-old approached a gate at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday afternoon, where Essendon and the Sydney Swans were playing.

Minister Harriet Shing says she is satisfied security protocols were enacted as planned.
