Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has met with King Charles at Balmoral Castle as he continues his diplomatic tour.
A longstanding advocate of the republican cause, Mr Albanese described his conversation with the monarch as wonderful and warm, saying King Charles has a "great affection" for Australia.
Mr Albanese also defended his decision to speak at the UK Labor Party Conference. He’s faced criticism from the opposition over his planned address, but he says he's simply engaging with international partners.
"Oh, look, I'm engaging, and I met also with Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the conservative party yesterday. So I'm engaged. I've taken up the invitation from Prime Minister Starmer to engage and, of course, AUKUS means that the UK has never been more important. And I'll be engaging with all of the ministers in the British government tomorrow, and that will be a great opportunity. That's where they'll all be and I'll be there with them."
Mr Albanese will travel to the United Arab Emirates to meet with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan next.

President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of US troops to Portland, Oregon, and to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities nationwide.
The president says the move is necessary to protect federal property from what he called attacks by Antifa and other domestic terrorists.
He authorised full force, if necessary - a phrase echoed in his announcement on social media.
In a post on X, Mr Trump wrote: “I will not allow our cities to be overrun by anarchists and criminals. Federal property will be protected, and law and order will be restored.”
Local leaders in Oregon condemned the order, with the state’s governor and Portland’s mayor questioning both its legality and necessity.
The decision follows reports of vandalism in Portland and a shooting at an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas, though details of that incident remain disputed.

Palestinians who fled Gaza City are calling for peace in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the United Nations.
The Israeli leader's address to the UN General Assembly saw a walk-out by dozens of delegates, and a standing ovation by some onlookers.
Mr Netanyahu used the speech to reject claims of genocide, to urge Hamas to release hostages, and to accuse countries who recognised Palestinian statehood of rewarding terrorists.
His words were broadcast live by Israeli authorities on loudspeakers inside Gaza.
Displaced Palestinians, like Nortal Turokmani, says ordinary Gazans are being brutally punished.
"They did not eradicate Hamas, but we see that they are wiping out people who are civilians. We have been displaced from one place to another. We are not Hamas. We are civilians."

At the United Nations General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is warning that Moscow will respond forcefully to any attack on its territory.
NATO countries have accused Russia of provocative incursions into European airspace, but Mr Lavrov insisted the Kremlin has no plans to strike the alliance.
"Russia has never had and does not have any such intentions. However, any aggression against my country will be met with a decisive response. There should be no doubt about this among those in NATO and the EU who are not only telling their voters that the war with Russia is inevitable, but also openly talking about preparations for an attack on our Kaliningrad region and other Russian territories."
His remarks come three years into Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a conflict still without resolution despite recent talks between President Putin and Donald Trump.

And in sport, the Brisbane Lions have secured back-to-back premierships with a crushing 47-point win over Geelong in the AFL grand final.
The two sides went into the break with the same score, before Charlie Cameron and Will Ashcroft starred in the Lions' 122 to 75 victory in front of more than 100,000 fans at the MCG.
Ashcroft was also awarded the Norm Smith Medal as best afield in the season decider for the second straight year.
Afterwards, he thanked his team.
"To the Brisbane Lions footy club, from top to bottom, everyone puts in so much work. To the boys, we just keep turning up, we battle through so much adversity. We are going to enjoy tonight and next week, then we get back to work."
