South African neo-Nazi Mathew Gruter has been detained by Border Force officers after Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed yesterday he had cancelled his visa.

Matthew Gruter was one of 60 demonstrators linked to the National Socialist Network who protested outside New South Wales parliament on the 9th of November.

Minister Burke says Mr Gruter is being held in immigration detention and must leave the country within 30 days, and that he has few avenues to appeal the decision.

Mr Burke says cancelling the visa was an easy decision, given Mr Gruter's conduct, and that governments are activley looking for ways to crack down on neo-Nazis.

"I think every state government, and the federal government as well, we're all looking at our legal options. Effectively, there are some people who are wanting to attack modern Australia and we don't intend to see them to make any ground."

Ousted Victorian Liberal leader Brad Battin says he's proud of the work he did while in the role and that he intends to stay on as part of the party's parliamentary team.

Mr Battin lost the leadership to Jess Wilson in a partyroom vote on Tuesday morning - less than one year after he replaced his predecessor, John Pesutto.

With Victoria will holding an elections next year, Mr Battin sought to highlight crime as a key issue.

He says the ascension of first-term politician Jess Wilson means the Victorian Liberal party now has a "very clear path" to win government at the next election.

"Politics isn't about just being inside the parliament. It's actually about people. It's about the people we're supposed to be representing. In the time I've been in this role, it's been an absolute privilege. I actually have an amazing team that work in here. They're fantastic. Each and every one of the members in this room and they'll continue to be. What I'm going to say just to finish off that statement is that I want to wish them all the best - each and every one of them. I look forward to working with them and remaining a strong part of that team. "

A third-generation fruit farmer will lead the Nationals in New South Wales as the Coalition continues to languish - with the Liberals also on the brink of choosing a new leader.

Coffs Harbour MP Gurmesh Singh was elected unopposed, less than a day after former broadcaster Dugald Saunders' stepped down for family reasons.

He says the wellbeing of regional communities is at the heart of everything they do.

Mr Singh - whose great grandfather emigrated from India in 1895 - told SBS in September that Australia needs to come to terms with the idea that migrants who work to make Australia their home should be seen as Australians.

"They just want to fit in and I think that's most important message we can all take away, that when people choose to make Australia their home, we have to welcome them with open arms and embrace the qualities that everyone brings to this nation."

New figures released by Australia's consumer watchdog ahead of Black Friday sales reveal Australians reported nearly $260 million in losses to scams in the first nine months of this year.

Between January and September 2025, the National Anti-Scam Centre’s Scamwatch service received 159,319 scam reports with financial losses of $259.5 million.

Although there were 20 per cent fewer scams than there were for the same period last year, the amount of money lost to scams was 16 per cent higher.

Independent Senator David Pocock says the government needs to take action urgently.

"We saw the government pass their scams legislation framework in February, and now we're heading towards the end of November, and we've seen no further action. I understand that there's a bit going on for government. I've appreciated the consultation with the new minister, but this timing isn't good enough. We've seen Australians lose 260 million-odd dollars in the first nine months of this year. This is urgent."
