Authorities say over 166,000 people have been evacuated in France and Spain as unprecedented forest fires rage near Madrid and Bordeaux.
At least 141,000 people have been evacuated in southwestern France and 25,000 in the Madrid region.
In France, President Emmanuel Macron has called on the European Union for assistance, and mobilised the army to help contain the fire, which has destroyed more than 100 homes since it broke out last week.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez warns the blaze remains extremely dangerous as it shifts course.
"The fire has burned through 14,000 hectares and destroyed 53 homes. We learned mid-afternoon that, due to shifting winds, the fire, which is a convective fire, meaning it is self-sustaining, massive in scale, and extremely difficult to bring under control, was changing direction. It feeds itself and shifts course. We learned that, driven by the wind, it was actually moving eastward, heading toward the Bordeaux metropolitan area."
International Criminal Court member states have voted to dismiss British prosecutor Karim Khan, after allegations he sexually assaulted a female member of staff.
82 of 125 members voted to remove Mr Khan during the closed-door session, following the 56-year-old's suspension last month by a key governing body of the ICC.
In May 2025, Mr Khan stepped back from his duties to fight the allegations made by one of his female colleagues after an inquiry was launched the previous year.
President of the court's governing body, Paivi Kaukoranta, says the court has acted in the interests of the international community.
"While the court may have more challenges ahead, the Assembly's navigation of this difficult matter coupled with the dedication of the court staff and elected officials has demonstrated the resolve to continue to support the court through difficult times and to ensure that it can discharge its critical mandate."
United States President Donald Trump warns the US is prepared for more major strikes on Iran, while maintaining talks to end the conflict are ongoing.
He claims negotiations are the most serious they have been so far, claiming Iran wants to make a deal, but isn't ready yet.
The US President has reiterated Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, and says the US is ready to launch a massive attack if no deal is reached.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said Iran will not give in to threats and says the US must change its approach if it wants negotiations to be successful.
"As I have said before, there is currently no problem regarding mediation between Iran and the United States. Mediators exist, messages are being exchanged, and each side’s views are being communicated to the other. The real problem is the United States’ approach, which remains one of bullying and coercion."
The United Nations says it is deeply concerned about an emerging pattern of violence against women and girls in the Sudanese city of al-Obeid.
The UN says women and girls in the besieged city face drone attacks during the day and sexual violence at night when they go out to collect water.
It comes as fighting intensifies between the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in a conflict that has triggered one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric says there is no safe time for women in the city to collect water.
"That mirrors the atrocities documented in al-Fashir last year. UN Women has heard from women and girls in al-Obeid that due to drone strikes targeting water sources and distribution points during daylight hours, they are forced to wait until after nightfall to collect water. These women and girls have been harassed, they've been raped, they have been subjected to other forms of sexual violence as they are just trying to get water."
A Queensland man has died, and a police officer is in a stable condition after a shooting on the state's Fraser Coast.
Police were called to a property at Yengarie near Maryborough on Friday evening for a welfare check, after reports of a domestic violence matter.
A 45-year-old man allegedly approached the officers and shot at them as they arrived, hitting one of the officers in the leg.
Specialised police attended the scene later that evening and found the 45-year-old man dead during a search of the property.
An Ethical Standards Command investigation is underway.
Australia is top of the medal tally after day 1 of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, winning six gold, two silver and five bronze.
Lani Pallister claimed the first Australian gold of the day, comfortably winning the 400m freestyle final, before the Australian swim team went on to win a further five gold medals.
Mollie O’Callaghan secured gold in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, while the men’s 4x100m freestyle team captured Australia’s sixth gold medal.
Jenna Forrester delighted with a shock gold medal in the 400m backstroke, after winning bronze in the 400m freestyle.
Forrester was fifth at halfway, and fourth at the start of the final lap, before powering ahead to a first-place finish.
