Reserve Bank Governor Michelle Bullock isn't ruling out another rate rise later this year after hiking the cash rate to 4.6 per cent.
The RBA Governor says higher interest rates are necessary to deal with inflation and will raise them again if it helps to bring inflation down.
She says she understands this decision is difficult for businesses with loans and households with mortgages.
"But high inflation hurts all Australians, especially the most vulnerable. Every household has seen how the price of everything has gone up in recent years. Pay packets don't go as far as they used to, and that's why we need to stop this high inflation. It's critical that we stop expectations for high inflation from becoming embedded in price-setting decisions across the economy, or the problem will only get worse. That's why bringing inflation down is our priority."

The federal coalition says the Reserve Bank decision to raise interest rates is a result of the government's spending habits and so-called addiction to inflation.
Shadow Treasurer Tim Wilson says the government is in denial about how they've contributed to inflation and high rates, accusing Treasurer Jim Chalmers of making excuses.
Opposition leader Angus Taylor says the economy is not functioning well under Labor.
"16 interest rate increases. The current interest rates are a result of Labor's actions. Let's be clear, and we know that this is a government that is spending too much. We also know it's an economy that is not working, and that drives up inflation, and it drives up interest rates."

A Vietnamese Australian feared missing in Cambodia has been arrested.
Vietnamese authorities have confirmed that Hiep Tran, has been taken into custody along with Vietnamese-Norwegian human rights activist Duc Thuan Nguyen and Thai Cong Truong Son.
The trio were detained on September 18 on terror charges, with Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security alleging they attempted to cross illegally from Cambodia into Vietnam.
But the Australian Alliance to Combat Human Trafficking group Mr Tran co-founded says they had no intention of entering Vietnam, accusing authorities of abducting the pair on fabricated charges to cover up an act of transnational repression.
Mr Tran's wife, Chloe Dang, tells SBS News it's been more than 12 days since she's seen or heard from her husband.
"It drives me crazy, like you know, when you're loved [one] goes missing. You understand the government supports you, the embassy supports you, everyone try to find your husband for you. But with the limited information, you just like, stay in the dark and worry about their well-being; you don't know what happened to them. Yeah, it's like crazy."

Counter-terrorism police in the UK say a quantity of petrol has been found but no improvised explosive devices as part of an investigation into a suspected terror plot targeting an air base used by the United States.
Properties in London have also been searched as part of investigations.
Head of national counter terrorism policing, Laurence Taylor, reassured the public that the five men face stringent bail conditions and remain under investigation.
Fairford has been used during the 1990 Gulf War, the 2003 Iraq war and the US-Israeli bombardment of Iran this year.

Malaysia has begun the process of deporting around 1,500 Myanmar nationals as part of a broader refugee repatriation program, despite objections from the United Nations and other human rights groups.
Malaysia has said that the program was strictly voluntary, but refugee groups have raised concerns about the safety of those being returned, with Myanmar still in a state of civil war.
Myanmar has been in turmoil since a 2021 coup triggered a civil war.
Malaysia hosts around 193,000 refugees from Myanmar, around two-thirds of whom were Rohingya.
Malaysia has tightened immigration enforcement in recent years amid rising local hostility against refugees, particularly ethnic Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar.

In sport, the NRL judiciary has handed Newcastle forward Phoenix Crossland a four-match ban for the hip-drop tackle that broke Panther's Star Nathan Cleary's leg.
In emotional testimony at the NRL’s Moore Park headquarters, Crossland apologised to everyone in rugby league and for the incident taking the focus off grand final week.
The suspension means Crossland will not only miss this Sunday's grand final against the Sydney Roosters but also the majority of the World Cup for New Zealand.
It comes as Cleary pleads with fans to stop peppering the Newcastle Knights hooker with social media abuse.
