The new Liberal leader doubles down on Australia's housing crisis...

The Indigenous All Stars score a triumphant win over the Māori Wahine in New Zealand.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas has described 30 billion dollars in federal funding to build a nuclear submarine construction yard in Adelaide as the most structurally significant contribution to South Australia's economy.

The facility is part of the AUKUS deal - a trilateral security partnership between Australia, the U-K and the US to strengthen defence capabilities.

The SA premier said once complete, the facility is expected to create 15,000 highly skilled and highly paid jobs.

New opposition leader Angus Taylor is focusing on cost-of-living pressures and housing in an attempt to regain support for the Coalition.

Speaking at a shopping centre in Oran Park in southwest Sydney today the new Liberal leader spoke out against a possible wind-back of the capital gains tax discount rumoured to be under consideration by the Labor government.

He said a less generous discount would reduce housing stock at a time when beefing up housing supply is a priority.

"If you tax homes you get less homes, and right now we need more homes not less. Labor has completely failed to me its housing targets, it's going to continue to fail because they don't actually understand how housing works. if you tax something you get less of it."

NSW premier Chris Minns says police guidelines for carrying out dangerous pursuits on city streets should not shift despite the deaths of two women after one chase.

31-year-old Luke Francis has been charged with 11 offences, including aggravated dangerous driving occasioning death, after hitting the women while driving a stolen car following a chase on Saturday.

He failed to stop for police in Beverly Hills in southern Sydney, prompting the pursuit.

Mr Minns said police are in an impossible situation when dealing with someone who's broken the law — and that a person who's driving a stolen car at top speed is also putting the community at risk.

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and Syrian Democratic Forces commander Mazloum Abdi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Secretary Rubio wants to see a permanent ceasefire and integration agreement in northeast Syria, and welcomed the Syrian government's commitment to fully cooperating with the U-S.

Syria's foreign minister says it also plans to work with the Kurdish-led SDF forces to achieve stability in the country.

"We don’t want Syria after the Assad regime to be [left] in divisions. We need to see all the Syrian people to believe in Syria as it is in its diversity and also to work with us to rebuild Syria. And we don’t see the SDF as enemies. We see them as partners."

Australia is closer than ever to striking a long-awaited free-trade pact with the European Union, after Donald Trump's tariff wars gave talks fresh momentum.

Trade Minister Don Farrell says while there's no agreement yet, a deal is close following two days of talks with EU commissioners in Brussells.

A free-trade deal would give Australian exporters greater access to a market of more than 450 million people, while also removing tariffs on European imports.

However Senator Farrell admits talks are ongoing around such things as beef quotas, and Australian producers using terms like prosecco and feta for products that aren't sourced from specific European regions.

The longest-serving current resident of 10 Downing Street marks 15 years at the address today.

Larry the cat was brought into the official home of the British Prime Minister from an animal shelter in the UK and has also outlasted numerous Prime Ministers so far: David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak and is now Keir Starmer's house cat.

The Indigenous All Stars came from behind to score four second half tries to claim a win over the Māori Wahine.

Trailing 14-0 at halftime, the Indigenous team turned the tables with Kirra Dibb leading the momentum.

Outside backs Phoenix-Raine Hippi, Caitlin Turnbull and Krystal Blackwell and Jada Taylor scored tries to wrestle back the lead from the Māori team before a crowd of 12,441 at FMG Stadium Waikato near on New Zealand's North Island.

It was the third successive win by the Indigenous All Stars over the Māori Wahine as called by Fox Sports.

"Jada Taylor down the sideline, Taylor in and away and she's away. Jada Taylor chased, not for the first time. Jada Taylor goes the length of a rugby league field for a spectacular individual effort. The Indigenous All Stars will win."
