Treasurer Jim Chalmers has accused the Opposition Leader Angus Taylor of creating division, after the Coalition delivered their budget reply on Thursday.
Mr Taylor said if the Coalition won the election, it would introduce a lower net migration intake, and ban future non-citizens in Australia from using welfare services.
Migrant advocates have criticised the proposal, accusing Mr Taylor's speech of creating division demonising migrants.
Dr Chalmers says in his assessment, the speech failed to stack up.
"What we saw last night from Angus Taylor was not a budget reply, it was a bin fire. It wasn't a reply, it was a bin fire of high deficits, more debt, more inflation and more division."
