Former Melbourne captain Garry Lyon has called on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to write a "dirty big cheque" for FightMND in honour of Neale Daniher, who passed away on Monday at the age of 65.
Lyon also wants the PM to head down the slide into a pool of iced water at this year's Big Freeze, which raises funds for research into MND and is expecting a huge crowd at the MCG before the Demons play Collingwood in their traditional King's Birthday blockbuster on June 8.
Melbourne and Essendon players will wear black armbands in Daniher's honour in their matches this weekend.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has joined tributes in Parliament for the sporting and charity icon.
"I offer our heartfelt condolences to the Daniher family. His wife Jan, his children Bec, Ben, Laurenand Luke. His many grandchildren and wider family. They did so much to support the man that they loved so deeply."

Palestinian health officials say an Israeli air strike in the southern Gaza Strip has killed two people - including a six-year-old girl.
An October ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump has failed to halt Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, with Israel and Hamas deadlocked in indirect talks over implementing the second phase of the deal, which includes the militant group's disarmament and Israeli army withdrawals.
The officials say the strike hit a tent in the Muwasi area, where displaced families have been sheltering.
In a statement, the Israeli military has said it targeted what it described as militants in the area, but gave no further details.

The United States says it will give diplomacy every chance to succeed in negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program.
Speaking during a visit to India, US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has said talks remain a work in progress and Washington is hopeful of reaching an agreement.
“As the president said, he’s not in a hurry. He’s not going to make a bad deal. I mean, the President’s not going to make a bad agreement. So let’s see what happens. We’re going to give diplomacy every chance to succeed before we explore the alternatives.”

Russia says it is urging all foreign citizens and diplomats to leave as it plans more strikes on decision-making centres in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.
In a statement, it said the strikes were a response to a deliberate drone attack by Ukraine on a student dorm on Friday, which Ukraine's military says was an elite drone command unit.

Stolen Generations survivors and advocates have delivered a national plan to the federal government, calling on Australian leaders to deliver on past apologies and commit to meaningful change.
The report released by the Healing Foundation on National Sorry Day [[26 May]], sets out a 2-year action plan for government agencies to implement outstanding recommendations made in the Bringing them Home report.
Bringing them Home made 54 recommendations following a national inquiry into the separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, and twenty-nine years on, 94 per cent of them have not been implemented.
CEO of the Healing Foundation Shannan Dodson says the action plan is a practical tool for government Ministers, Department Secretaries and other agencies and organisations to advance healing and justice.
"Sadly what we've seen with not seeing this implementation over 30 years, an entire generation, is that we've seen another generation of trauma passed down. And some of the things we see in our communities is a symptom of that trauma. And we really need to address this from a systematic and holistic approach, and that is what the research has shown is that there hasn't been that approach."

A coroner has heard new details of the final moments before double police killer Dezi Freeman was shot dead in Victoria’s north-east.
The Coroners Court was told officers tracked Freeman to a shipping container at Thologolong in March, seven months after he killed two police officers at Porepunkah.
Police spent hours negotiating with Freeman, who at one stage told officers to “come have a beer with me and we’ll talk about it” before police deployed and Freeman allegedly emerged carrying a stolen police-issued handgun.
The court also heard none of the officers involved in the fatal shooting were wearing body-worn cameras.

To sport now and in cycling news, Italian rider Enrico Zanoncello has been kicked out of the Giro d’Italia after headbutting another rider during a chaotic finish in Milan.
Zanoncello was disqualified after being seen leaning into British rider Bob Donaldson before thrusting his head towards him, causing Donaldson to crash heavily.
The stage was also overshadowed by safety complaints from riders, who criticised the condition of the Milan circuit, including tram tracks and potholes.
Norwegian rider Fredrik Dversnes eventually won the stage from a breakaway, despite accusations from sprint teams that race motorbikes helped pace the escape group to victory.
