US President Donald Trump says a deal with Iran to end the war between the two countries has been largely negotiated, with the proposal including moves to open the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

Weeks of negotiations, including historic face-to-face talks hosted by Islamabad, have still not produced a permanent resolution or restored full access to the Strait of Hormuz, choking vast quantities of global oil supply.

However, following Mr Trump's announcement Iran's Fars news agency has reported that the Strait of Hormuz would remain under Iran's management according to the latest exchanged text between Iran and the US.

Spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Esmail Baghaei says the details of the detail have not yet been finalised.

"Our initial intention was to draft a memorandum of understanding, a kind of framework agreement comprised of fourteen clauses. This memorandum of understanding will address the essential points for ending the imposed war, as well as the fundamental issues for us. We are currently in the final stages of finalizing these memoranda of understanding."

As the death toll from Africa's Ebola outbreak grows health facilities have been targeted by some people amid anxiety over limits on access to the highly infectious bodies of loved ones.

At least three treatment centres have been burned in eastern Congo, where funeral wakes and gatherings of more than 50 people have been banned to help curb the outbreak.

David Basima is a team leader at Red Cross dignified and safe burials, which is responsible for protocols used to bury victims during outbreaks of the infectious disease.

He says staff have experienced resistance from the community, with some burials being overseen by armed guards as a precaution.

"At the community level, they need to know how often the virus circulates in the community and that it kills. It kills, and we must protect ourselves. And in the event of a death, we must secure the body until it is laid to rest with dignity."
