The conflict between the United States and Iran will hit the 100-day mark on Monday, with the latest exchanges of fire testing a fragile ceasefire.

The US targeted Iranian drones and radar sites, while Iran fired missiles at American military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain.

Despite the latest attacks, ceasefire talks remain underway, although both sides have accused each other of undermining efforts to reach a lasting agreement.

Middle East expert at the London School of Economics, Fawaz Gerges, says the war's impact is being felt well beyond the two countries involved.

"What Iran has tried to do is to increase the costs, not only to its Gulf neighbours but also to the global economy. We need to keep in mind that you have more than one third of energy sources in the Gulf and the United States has about 50 or 60 or 70 thousand American troops stationed throughout the Gulf. So the Gulf states are really in the thick of it."

Funeral prayers have been held for a seven-month-old Palestinian baby shot dead by Israeli troops near Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

Sam Fahd Abu Haikal was buried wrapped in a white shroud and Palestinian flag.

Palestinian health officials say he was killed after Israeli troops opened fire on his parents' vehicle in the Tel Rumeida area south of Hebron.

The Israeli military says a single shot was fired after soldiers "perceived a vehicle accelerating toward them" and the incident is now under review.

The baby's parents were also injured, and his father says the family does not accept that the shooting was a mistake.

The Queensland government is being urged to move quickly to announce the state's new commissioner for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children.

Outgoing commissioner Natalie Lewis is concerned the role will be abolished but says it is crucial a successor is appointed to help reform the system after the findings of Queensland's Child Safety Commission of Inquiry were released.

The inquiry's report made 52 recommendations to the state government to address what it says are serious failures, including the gross over-representation of First Nations children in the care system.

Speaking to NITV News, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner, Katie Kiss, says First Nations children in Queensland need a voice.

"I really call on government to replace Natalie as a matter of urgency; to fill that position. Our children's rights, our children's lives depend on having that strong advocate in that position. And you know, we've got a significant over-representation of our kids in the child safety system - and in youth justice; and in watch houses today as we speak. Those advocates are critical to ensuring that we addressing those issues."

Police in the US state of Ohio are searching for suspects after eight people were shot near a community festival in Toledo.

Officers were called to the Old West End Festival on Saturday afternoon, where authorities say multiple victims were found.

Toledo's mayor says all eight people who were shot are expected to survive.

Ohio's governor has condemned the shooting, saying summer festivals should be safe spaces for families.

Pope Leo has praised Spain's support for migrants and its opposition to war, as he began a week-long visit to the country.

The Pontiff also addressed hundreds of thousands of young people at a prayer vigil in Madrid, urging them to play a positive role in society.

Pope Leo has used his first official visit to Spain to promote peace, solidarity and compassion, while highlighting the importance of supporting vulnerable people.

He delivered the message during an event attended by around 600-thousand people in the Spanish capital.

"I want to entrust you all with a mission: that you be human. Yes, be human: men and women of flesh and blood. Not appearances, but trustworthy faces."

In sport,

The Socceroos have drawn one-all with Switzerland in their final warm-up match before the FIFA World Cup.

Switzerland took the lead in the first half through Dan Ndoye and looked the better side for long periods of the match in San Diego.

Australia equalised ten minutes into the second half when debutant Tete Yengi scored his first international goal.

"Yeah it's an amazing feeling, you know you work hard for moments like this and I’m happy to help the team today and get my first game first of all and also my first goal."

Another debutant, Cristian Volpato, also started for the Socceroos, who now turn their attention to their World Cup opener against Türkiye next week.
