Footage has emerged of this morning's arrest at Sydney Airport, which allegedly involved a man firing a police officer's gun near one of the terminals.

The video has been shared by 2GB, showing an individual on the ground, close to cafe serving and dining areas, being restrained by at least three others.

A former New South Wales police officer - identified as William - has told 2GB he was one of the men in the video.

"We saw this fellow struggling with the two A-F-P officers. The officer's long firearm has gone to the ground and is underneath the fellow. As we went to restrain him the shot has been discharged. When the firearm discharged, the fellow was lying on it. I suspect his right hand had activated the trigger but I didn't see it of course as it was obscured by his body."

The West Australian government has confirmed plans to introduce what it calls landmark legislation to reform reproductive technology and surrogacy rules in the state.

Premier Roger Cook says the new laws will remove red tape to modernise and streamline access to fertility treatment, surrogacy, genetic testing and donor information.

Health Minister Meredith Hammat says that will include changes to allow same-sex couples, single people, transgender and intersex Western Australians to access both ART and surrogacy - all of whom are currently excluded.

She says the government wants to help more people in the community realise their dream of becoming parents.

Unions will push for a shorter working week at next week's economic summit.

The Australian Council of Trade Unions [[A-C-T-U]] says it intends to call for a four day week in sectors that can support it, arguing that this will allow workers to be more productive and take advantage of technology.

ACTU president Michelle O'Neil says reducing working hours from a standard five days a week is key to lifting living standards.

Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Andrew McKellar says the idea makes no sense because of the current conditions.

"From a business point of view we think they want to have their cake and eat it too. Clearly you've got to have the productivity first."

Opposition leader Sussan Ley says the Coalition will reverse any recognition of Palestinian statehood if they return to power.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says Australia will join the United Kingdom, Canada and France in recognising Palestinian statehood at a United Nations General Assembly meeting in September.

But the Coalition argues it is disrespectful of Australia's relationship with the United States and could jeopardise peace as any ceasefire would be brokered by the U-S.

Ms Ley has told Channel Seven it won't help to bring about a two-state solution as many have hoped.

"This recognition from the Prime Minister is unconditional. There were several conditions placed on it notionally but they can't reasonably be met. One of them is that Hamas be dismantled and taken out of any general elections and clearly that's not possible which is why the Coalition has made it very clear that we oppose this and we will reverse this decision. Because this is not in the interest of Palestinian people and peace in the region - which we all want."

The Israeli military says it recently struck a group of militants in the Gaza Strip who were disguised as aid workers and using a car with the logo of World Central Kitchen, an international charity founded by celebrity chef José Andrés.

The I-D-F says it carried out an air strike on the men after confirming with the charity that they were not affiliated with it and that the car did not belong to them.

World Central Kitchen has condemned the militants, saying it further endangers civilians and aid workers.

Israel previously bombed vehicles used by the World Central Kitchen in April 2024, killing seven aid workers including Australian Zomi Frankcom, despite the charity confirming its movements with Israel.

The Trump administration is launching a review of the exhibits in the Smithsonian museum network, ahead of the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.

White House officials have said in a letter to Smithsonian Institution Secretary Lonnie Bunch that the review aims to ensure the institution highlights what it describes as 'historically accurate' and 'inclusive' portrayals of the country's heritage.

The move has raised concerns of political interference at the vast museum and research institution, and stoked fears that the administration is undermining the acknowledgment of critical phases of American history.

To sport and in AFL news,

Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has shown her support for Australian superstar Kylie Minogue to perform at the A-F-L grand final.

US rapper Snoop Dogg has been secured for this year's final, the biggest event of Australian football this year.

But there have been growing calls for Kylie to appear, which she is yet to do.

Ms Allan says while it's a matter for the AFL - she would like to see it happen.

"I'm just merely expressing my preference as to who I'd like to see on grand final day. Having been there when Meatloaf performed, I'd love to see Kylie."
