Multilingual bookshop, Lost In Books, is celebrating one year of providing families in Sydney's south-west children's books in over 15 different languages.
The shop is located in Fairfield where locals speak more than 180 languages with 70% using a language other than English at home.
Small Business Secrets first met Lost In Book’s founder Jane Statton earlier this year, after the bookshop also became home to a women’s café, offering support for women experiencing domestic violence.
Lost In Books is one of several projects that have been the result of Jane's charitable trust – the Think+DO Tank Foundation.
“We’re a social enterprise, which means that all of the money generated is ploughed back into our operations,” Jane says.
In the past month, the bookshop has joined school fairs, providing multilingual books to children from a range of backgrounds and languages.
The business has also boosted its institutional sales by selling in bulk to schools, libraries and service organisations.
The bookshop is the base for programs such as; ‘Coffee and Conversation- practise your English’ and ‘Homework Club’ an after-school initiative that helps newly arrived primary school children with their homework.
