Growth in the retail sector continues
Retailers across Australia have enjoyed their third consecutive month of growth.
Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed a modest 0.4% rise in June.
The National Retail Association is remaining cautiously optimistic over the slight rise, saying there’s still some way to go.
Food retailing has led the charge with a 0.9% increase, while online retail turnover contributed 5.7% of the total retail turnover.
This is a rise from the 4.1% for the same period in 2017.
The seasonally adjusted figures show that the top three performers were the ACT with the highest rise of 1.7%, followed by Victoria with 1.1%, and NSW at 0.4 %.
LaunchVic to boost Victoria’s start-up sector
Victoria’s LaunchVic is set to invest $500,000 in hosting leaders from the global start-up scene as temporary ‘experts in residence’ in co-working spaces around the state.
20 experts from around the world will be given $25,000 each to base themselves in selected co-working spaces for a period of time.
The experts will be offering mentoring, guidance, and support to a variety of start-ups.
LaunchVic will be inviting co-working spaces to apply for the scheme and to nominate any expert they would like to bring on board.
Victoria currently hosts 140 co-working spaces for start-ups.
The co-working spaces are considered a critical part of the start-up ecosystem.
