Subcontractors to benefit from a cross-border program

The state government is being urged to support the proposed NSW Automatic Mutual Recognition program.

The Australian Small Business Ombudsman, Kate Carnell, wants government support for the program which will assist architects, plumbers, drainers, and gasfitters.

“The program will give employers a greater choice of subcontractors, many of which are sole traders,” says Ms. Carnell.

“It will create more job opportunities for subcontractors and small businesses.”

The push hopes to encourage close cross-border deals, assisting rural areas between Queanbeyan and Canberra, and Albury to Wodonga.

The scheme will allow tradies and small businesses to source work with employers who pay in 30 days or less.

The Ombudsman confirms strict regulatory conditions will still attach to licences, to protect customers.

It’s hoped the AMR could reduce red tape, and save subcontractors and small businesses hundreds of dollars in application fees each year.

Investment in Aussie start-ups are on the rise

Good news for Australian start-ups looking for investors, with the number of venture capital firms in Australia jumping by 70% since 2015.

According to data and networking platform Decode the number of accelerators and incubators has more than doubled.

The platform analysed changes to Australia’s startup space between August 2015 and 2018.

The figures follow reports showing increased investment in Australian start-ups.

KPMG’s Venture Pulse Report found 848-million start-ups were invested during the 2017-18 financial year.
