World Entrepreneur’s Day

It’s World Entrepreneur’s Day next week, and local businesses are being urged to help raise awareness of innovation and leadership.

Opportunity International Australia says World Entrepreneurs' Day, on Tuesday, August the 21st, is the time to celebrate the tremendous ingenuity and resilience of entrepreneurs here, and in developing countries.

Opportunity International Australia provides micro-finance loans to almost six-million entrepreneurs in Asia.

The loans enable the owner-operators to build their business, get access to regular incomes, and to create better futures for their families.

95% of the small businesses they support are owned and operated by women.

Local enterprises are encouraged on the day to run conferences, workshops and meetings on leadership, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship.

Fair Work Commission to better support SMEs

The Fair Work Commission is improving its services, to better support small business.

Recent research found that many owner-operators struggle with the current workplace relations system.

Business owners are describing fair work legislation as “far too complicated” and finding many of the forms and requirements “confusing”.

Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman Kate Carnell is welcoming the improvements.

“Workplace relations information will soon be provided to small businesses in plain language,” she explains.

“Information will be provided at a time, and in a form owner-operators can more readily access.”
