Haydenshapes has now expanded beyond surfboards and is designing wearable tech. The latest venture by the surf brand is a range of fashion-focused tap-and-go accessories, designed at the Mona Vale workshop.
The designs for Westpac are by award-winning surfboard maker Hayden Cox, the new tech gear acts as a holder for a paywear card, a small chip similar to a mobile phone sim card.
It allows surfers to wear the card and use it pay for goods or services, without carrying a debit card.
Hayden says his brief was to design wearable objects.
Small Business Secrets first met Hayden earlier this year, as the 36-year-old described the challenge of re-structuring his business.
“I was at a point where I was pretty much bankrupt,” explains Hayden.
“I didn’t declare bankruptcy, I decided to partner with a global distributor who was capable of taking the technology global and supplying and servicing a demand.”
Haydenshape’s signature black and white boards now sell in more than 70 countries.
The brand has announced a new range of twinny surfboards (two fins rather than three) to be released before Christmas.
