Small Business Secrets first met founder of The Nutty Baker Nina Siljanovic two years ago, not long after she had opened her shop in Sydney’s Vaucluse – going from banker to baker.
Since then she’s seen major growth. With customer traffic increasing threefold, focus has shifted from the wholesale side of the business, to retail.
But a major corporate contract with Qantas is about to change that.
“We’ve been selected by Qantas to supply first class and business international flights with our amoretti biscuits,” says Nina.
The initial contract runs for six months, starting in September this year. The challenge now is scaling up production.
"We currently make about 200 amoretti weekly in the shop, but with the Qantas deal that'll increase to 3000 weekly,” she says.
The large demand will mean Nina will now be using a factory to produce high volumes of goods.
But not wanting to sacrifice quality, she will be continuing to use the same ingredients regardless of price.
Nina believes the deal will be massive for her business brand, and is now thinking about opening a second store.
“The amoretti will be branded on the flight. I think the brand value has increased exponentially.”
