A young boy from El Paso has become an internet sensation after calling on residents to perform acts of kindness in honour of the lives lost in the recent mass shooting.
"This will show the world that people from El Paso, TX, are kind and care for each other," tweeted 11-year-old Ruben Gandarilla with the hashtag #ElPasoChallenge.
The Tweet has been shared more than 4,000 times and has been heralded as an inspiration to a community rocked by the massacre which occurred at a Walmart on Saturday morning.
Ruben's mother, Rose, shared a photo of her son online with a hand written explanation of the challenge and its aim to promote kindness in the wake of tragedy.
The 11-year-old included examples of acts of kindness which include visiting a nursing home, paying for someone's lunch or dinner, donating to families in need, and writing someone a letter telling them how great they are.
The death toll of the shooting has risen to 22 after the gunman open fired at the shopping centre. Authorities allege that the 21-year-old shooter set out to kill as many Mexicans as he could.
Those injured and killed range from two years old to 82.
The 11-year-old has since been photographed at a Taco Bell in El Paso encouraging customers to participate in the challenge.
"This courageous young man came up to us at Taco Bell and challenged us to make El Paso a better place," customer Chris Castaneda wrote on Facebook.
"I challenge you to fulfill this challenge and share this on your page to challenge others."
Social media users - from El Paso and beyond - are posting their pledges to the change to do one act of kindness for each victim of the shooting.
