Game of Thrones: A lot of babies were named Arya last year

As the final season of 'Game Of Thrones' comes to an end, some fans are choosing permanent ways to remember the show - they're naming their babies after their favourite characters.

While naming kids after morally questionable GOT characters has been happening since the show went to air -new data from the US Social Security Administration shows it’s quickly becoming more popular.

Excluding Jon and Jaime, over 4,500 children copped a Westeros-themed name in 2018, up from 3,800-plus in 2017 and 3,200 in 2016.

By far the most popular is GOT’s residency girl warrior, Arya, who had 2,545 babies named after her last year.

The data also revealed 560 Khaleesi’s, 434 Yara’s and 319 Lyanna’s - making it a very good year for women who know how to fight.

That’s not to say the men of Westeros didn’t get their time to shine also. 2018 saw the birth of 102 Renly’s, 58 Tyrion’s and (most worryingly) 15 Ramsay’s.

Game Of Throne is changing the way we see names

From 2000 to 2008, Jorah was an exclusively female name but then along came Ser Jorah Mormont and suddenly there’s been over 80 little boys named Jorah since 2014.

The show also could be responsible for bringing back historical names, with 11 babies named Cersei in 2017 - the first time that the name has showed up on the registry since 1880.

The administration only publishes data on names that were given to five babies or more so we can’t be sure there isn’t a little Hound, Reek or Joffrey running around out there.

But, dear God, we can hope there isn't.
