In defence of ugly animals

Life's tough when you're not cute.

Have you ever heard the saying… if you’re too ugly you won’t attract any funding for research into your species? No?

Possibly because it doesn't exist. But there's plenty of our native species that are at risk because they're not adorable enough for science.

Research from Curtin and Murdoch University has found that of Australia's native fauna, it's the fuzzy mammals like koalas and wallabies that attract the most research. Bats and rodents attract the least.

Which is, to put it midly, bullshit. So here's Jan Fran with one of her trademarked 'frants'.
