For most, being successful in one career is hard enough.
For Jack Black, he has worked his way to 'legend' status across several.
He has been one of the most recognisable faces in comedy on the big and small screen for the past two decades, starring in everything from action-comedies like Tropic Thunder to his own blockbuster animated franchise Kung Fu Panda - the third sequel which he came out to Australia to promote.
Yet his career as an unlikely rock star has built him a hugely passionate fan base, with Black fronting rock band Tenacious D with Kyle Gass.
The duo have had hit albums, songs, tours, TV shows and even a movie yet when it comes to writing that perfect song Black says it comes down to a matter of instinct.
"You can feel it. It's like the sound you hear you hit the ball perfectly and it goes sailing a mile out of the park.
"It's just like ting."
Music has always been a big part of Black's life, with his older brother Howard working as an engineer on Devo records and taking him to his first concert as a teenager.
"First concert I ever saw my brother took me to see Devo," he says.
"There was a song called Whip It ... it was rad. My brother had worked on that album Freedom Of Choice so he took me to see them and it was an amazing show.
"Very theatrical: weird, arty, rock. It was very influential.
"He (Howard) turned me on to good music."
