Man attempts to eat his way into Guinness World Records

Joel Kindred seems to be hooked on competitive eating because of the pain and sacrifice, not despite it.

Apparently, Tony Abbott isn’t the only one who likes chomping down on raw onions. Queensland labourer, Joel Kindred, beat him to it.

But then YouTube star, Furious Pete, beat Kindred at it and Kindred’s pride took a beating… But Kindred bounced back with a vengeance.

“If it’s not toxic, I’ll give it a crack. I take this extremely seriously,” says Kindred.
Most dim sims downed… although many came back up again.
Despite his wife’s concern for his health, Kindred set his sights on breaking 35 world records in one day – a record by some margin. The standing record by Pommie cricketer, Freddie Flintoff, is 15. And the fastest route into the Guinness Book of World Records: competitive eating.

What were some of the challenges on the table? Most grapes eaten with a spoon. Most corn kernels eaten with a toothpick. Most dim sims downed… although many came back up again.

His 24hr ordeal also included an attempt to break the record for the fastest consumption of three Carolina Reaper chilies – only the world’s hottest for Kindred.

Intriguingly, Kindred seems hooked on competitive eating because of the pain and sacrifice, not despite it.

“It’s a matter of setting the challenge and getting the discipline in place to actually do it,” says Kindred’s most loyal supporter, his dad.

And his brother, Josh, agrees, “Humour, mental fortitude, all these things he’s demonstrating… this generation can definitely do with a lot more of that.”

At the end of the day, Kindred pulled up just shy of Flintoff’s record. He beat 12 records from 35 attempts.

But for all there is to question about Kindred’s oral fixation, you can’t question his spirit.

“If you create the opportunity, then the possibilities are endless.”
