A Melbourne council is working to remove giant penises carved into parks and sportsgrounds across the district.

The phallic-shaped geoglyphs appeared on a popular reddit forum this week, after a user posted a Google Earth image of the vandalism.

TW Blake Park in Melbourne’s north-east has been unceremoniously decorated with the largest of the penises discovered so far. It is more than 100 metres long, with a girth of around 20 metres. The geoglyph is accompanied by a smaller penis by its side, about a fifth the size of its counterpart.

Online media outlet Broadsheet discovered two more parks with massive penis geoglyths. In Thornbury at Hayes Park, there is one measuring approximately 81 meters and the other three meters tall.

Two have been discovered at John Cain Memorial Park, measuring approximately 94 meters by 16 metres, and 14 meters by six metres.

Darebin Mayor Susan Rennie said this is “not a cheap joke”.

“Darebin Council condemns this type of irresponsible vandalism on our parks and sportsgrounds. It is not a cheap joke - fixing the affected ovals is complex, costly, and time consuming,” she said.”

“Council is taking action to remove the graffiti, but it can take months for the grass to recover, during which time our community are left using sub-standard grounds which can be a safety hazard.”

Rectifying the issue also costs ratepayer funds which could be better used elsewhere.

“We urge members of our community who are equally as disappointed in this behaviour to call the police if they suspect an act of vandalism is taking place.”

The matter has not been referred to the police.
