Mulletfest: Feast your eyes on the best of the worst

Diehard mullet heads descended on the tiny town of Kurri Kurri in NSW for the inaugural Mulletfest. It was a sight to be seen... and never unseen.

Eight hundred people packed into the Chelmsford Hotel in the tiny town of Kurri Kurri, NSW, to see 150 people battle it out for the title of Everyday Mullet, Grubby Mullet, Junior Mullet, Ladies Mullet, Ranger Mullet.

The overall title went to Shane "Shag" Hanrahan, who hasn't cut his hair since 1986. Shane filled his trophy with beer, chugged it then fronted the house band for a rendition of AC/DC's Dirty Deeds.

Event organiser Laura Johnson said, “We’ve already started planning for next year. We’re going to let people know the new categories well in advance so they can start growing their mullets early. It's seriously competitive, but seriously fun.”
