Naomi Campbell is a well known germ-conscious traveller, going as far as posting a YouTube tutorial of her pre-flight routine to avoid any possible germ residue that the cabin crew may have missed between flights.

Amid growing concerns around COVID-19, the iconic British model has upped precautions. On Tuesday, Campbell posted images of herself preparing to board a flight in Los Angeles International Airport with a hazmat suit, goggles, a face mask and pink latex gloves.
The caption on her social media reads “safety first NEXT LEVEL”, as the model promised her followers a video on her YouTube channel is “coming soon”, as she looks to update her travel etituqqe to match the demands of the spread of the viral disease.
Campbell’s followers delighted in her “peak auntie” energy.

Pre-flight routine

Campbell said in the video from a year ago about her pre-flight routine that she doesn’t care what people think, saying “it’s my health and it makes me feel better."  The routine includes wiping down the entire area around her seat with anti-bacterial wipes, using a seat cover from home and donning a face mask during the flight.

“I mean as much as I travel, I should get sick so much more with colds and stuff,” she said.

“I'm blessed that I don't. I really think that this helps me, my little routine.”

Her routine doesn’t change even if she’s flying on a private or commercial plane.

"No matter what plane you take, private or commercial," said Campbell.

"As the plane descends, people start coughing and sneezing. I just can't. This is my protection for people coughing and sneezing."

How helpful is a hazmat suit in fending off a viral infection as serious as coronavirus?

In a Twitter thread looking at the model’s precautionary tactics, Dr Phillip Lee said, “in terms of avoiding infection, the part that's often misunderstood is that it is just as important to follow procedures on removing gear as it is putting it on.”
