'Our kids are listening': Clinton ad achieves impossible and makes us genuinely think of the children

Hillary Clinton's latest campaign ad asks the public to consider what impressionable ears hear from their president.

We mock the 'won't somebody think of the children?!?' argument. It's usually devoid of serious critique, moralistic, and invites panic.

That being said, we're going to go ahead and give Hillary Clinton a pass on this one - her latest campaign ad is a masterpiece. Eschewing the time-honoured traditions of paranoid voiceovers, grainy jump-cuts and red-stamp graphics, the advertisement is a montage of children's faces, engaging in politics the way most of us do - by watching TV, and hearing the less-than-dignified comments for which her opponent is unfortunately known.

"Remember: When Donald Trump opens his mouth, our kids are listening."

Imagine if Australian politics inspired similar ads! Just picture dozens of happy little Vegemites, all engrossed in political coverage... before hastily switching channels to My Kitchen Rules.
