The Pokemon Company is going to revolutionise your sweet shut eye with the announcement of new napping app, Pokemon Sleep.
Compatible with a new device called ‘Pokemon Go Plus+’, the add-on will track users’ sleep cycle and monitor any patterns.
Players keep the device next to them while they sleep, and the data it collects will be transferred to a mobile phone via Bluetooth. It’ll then turned be into a game played while the ‘trainers’ are asleep.
The company says it wants to do for sleeping what it did for walking - turning it into entertainment.
A big ask for task that primarily involves doing, well, nothing.
The announcement has had more than a few people giggling online.
Pokemon Sleep’s closest relative Pokemon Go took the world by storm following its release in 2016.
The app used augmented reality to allow users to “catch” different Pokemon when walking around the physical world.
As of February 2019, the app has been downloaded 1 billion times worldwide, raking in US$3 billion dollars in revenue.
Despite its extreme initial popularity, Pokemon Go began to shed users in the months after it’s release with the app currently housing 147 million active users.
To celebrate the announcement of Pokemon Sleep, the company has made Snorlax - the sleeping Pokemon - abundant in number for Pokemon Go players.
You have some time to ‘train’ - it’ll be available from 2020.
