The long-running relationship between junk food and sport

Most elite athletes won’t be going anywhere near it in the lead up to the Rio Olympics, so why do junk food take up such a massive chuck of our sports advertising?

The 2016 Olympic Games are fast approaching and so are the plethora of ads encouraging sporting fans to down more cheeseburgers and sugary drinks.

It seems counter intuitive, but junk food multinationals like McDonalds, Coca-Cola and Cadbury have long held a prominent place in sporting advertising and not just at the elite level.
