You can’t spell “penis envy” without “misconceptions about size and what is actually average”, oh wait, yes you can… and that’s the problem.
When it comes to masculinity and penis size, the two tend to go hand in hand (pardon the pun). As far as representations of genitalia go - man with gigantic penis = good man, man with penis nub = bad man.
The people over at DrEd.com have decided to “because science” this whole concern about penis size malarkey and get to the bottom of schlong psychology.
After surveying over two thousand people (1,148 respondents identified as male, with 973 respondents identifying as female) they found that when it comes to perceived ideas of what an average penis looks like, men and women had similar concepts. But when asked what the ideal size for a penis should be, it probably comes as no surprise that men and women differed on the centimetres. The men, well, bigger is better, while the women low balled it.
On an international level, America and Spain have the biggest cock up in terms of perception versus reality with a 2.4cm and 2.2cm respective disparity between them. Where do these boner-heads get off with their size discrepancies?
With a 2015 survey finding that the average man’s erect penis size to be around 13cm, maybe everyone should just cool their jets and be happy with what they’ve got, which from this survey, seems to be the majority case.
And as far as women are concerned, size may be "somewhat important", but last we checked "somewhat" doesn't mean "fuss over the size of something at every chance you get". It's going to be alright men.
Now let’s all have a cold shower.
