A Republican state representative has been arrested on domestic violence offences, after allegedly assaulting his wife for undressing too slowly for sex.
According to local media, police responding to reports of domestic assault at the residence of Mississippi representative Douglas McLeod found the 58 year old with an alcoholic drink in hand, slurring his speech and walking in a zig-zag fashion.
It's understood McLeod's wife was found frightened with "blood all over her face, neck and arms". Deputies reported that the lawmaker had punched his wife in the face.
Mcleod's wife told police her husband 'just snapped'.

A second woman, also at the home at the time of the incident, told authorities it was because McLeod wanted to have sex - and his wife was not undressing fast enough. The relationship of this woman to McLeod is unknown.
It's alleged he also threatened to kill a dog belonging to the second woman.
McLeod was arrested on a domestic violence charge, but has since been released on a $1000 bail.
McLeod has served as a state rep since 2012. Earlier this year, he co-sponsored a bill that would have banned abortions after the detection of fetal heartbeat (around 6 weeks). The Mississippi governor signed the bill into law, but it's now facing a contest in the US District Court.
McLeod faces re-election later this year, but is currently running unopposed.
“These actions are unacceptable for anyone”
Several colleagues are now calling for his resignation.
Mississippi state house speaker, and fellow Republican, Philip Gunn, released a short statement on the incident.
"I have attempted to contact Rep. McLeod to request his resignation, if in fact, these allegations are true. These actions are unacceptable for anyone."
State Democrats have followed suit.
