President Donald Trump’s campaign labelled Lady Gaga an “anti-fracking activist” after Joe Biden announced the pop star would be a campaign guest at his rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
Mr Trump’s communication director, Tim Murtaugh, claimed Lady Gaga’s appearance would be a “sharp stick in the eye for 600,000 Pennsylvanians who work in the fracking industry.”
“Nothing exposes Joe Biden’s disdain for the forgotten working men and women of Pennsylvania like campaigning with anti-fracking activist Lady Gaga,” Mr Murtaugh wrote in a press release on Monday.
“Joe Biden will always prioritize the desires of the liberal Hollywood elite and the radical left,” he continued.
Lady Gaga swiped back at Mr Trump’s campaign on Monday morning, tweeting: “HEY TIM HEY @realDonaldTrump SO HAPPY IM GLAD TO BE LIVING RENT FREE in your HEAD.”
In an aim to discredit the Democratic candidate, Mr Trump’s campaign has aired several misleading advertisements, such as one which claims: “If Joe Biden’s elected, he’ll end fracking.”
“Pennsylvania: Biden said that he doesn’t want Fracking,” Mr Trump tweeted on Monday.
“Besides, and more importantly, his handlers won’t allow Fracking. That would be the end of Pennsylvania!”
Despite the president’s claims, Mr Biden has repeatedly stated he would ban new gas and oil permits — including fracking — on federal lands only.
In a flurry of tweets, Mr Trump also claimed: “Biden is a proven Castro puppet!”, despite the fact that Fidel Castro -- the Cuban communist revolutionary -- died in 2016.
Superstars, Lady Gaga and John Legend, will join Mr Biden and Vice Presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
Lady Gaga will make an appearance alongside Mr Biden in Pittsburgh, while John Legend will be with Ms Harris in Philadelphia.
“I AM SO EXCITED to be back in Pennsylvania! (Pittsburgh where I used to fly into to visit my grandma!). See you tomorrow at Joe’s rally! WE NEED EVERY VOTE PA - make a plan. This election depends on you!,” Lady Gaga tweeted on Monday.
In another tweet, Lady Gaga called Joe Biden a “good friend” and said he was the “President this country needs to bring us back together.”
Both Mr Trump and Mr Biden, as well as their running mates, will converge on Pennsylvania on Monday, which Mr Trump won in 2016 by less than one percentage point.
Polls currently forecast Mr Biden maintaining his overall lead but some tightening in states including Pennsylvania and Florida.
