You can thank Trump for Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone reboot

Imagine a place where “we have one of our most mediocre television reality show hosts as the leader of the free world,” you have entered The Twilight Zone - or, just 2019.

Even if you haven’t seen any of legendary sci-fi series 'The Twilight Zone', you would have felt its impact in media like The Simpsons, Futurama, The Simpsons and, of course, The Simpsons.

Hollywood’s modern-day horror mastermind Jordan Peele is bringing back the frightful ‘50s and ‘60s institution, acting as producer and host.

Anticipation for the reboot has hit boiling point in the run up to it’s April 1st debut.
According to Peele, though the whole thing would never have happened if not for one person: Donald J. Trump.

Imagine a place...

“I heard people saying it feels like we’re in the Twilight Zone in the past couple of years since Trump got elected,” Peele told The Feed’s Marc Fennell.

(For the uneducated - Twilight Zone is kind of like the original ‘Black Mirror’ - with the horror built on telling stories that could almost actually happen in the real world.)

According to Peele, the current ‘topsy-turviness’ of the world meant it was the perfect time to revive the series.

Peele will be stepping into shoes of the show’s creator and narrator Rod Serling. An ex-US soldier, Serling was vocally anti-war and pro-racial equality, an anomaly in the mid-20th century.

“I really felt in my core is that what Serling did was that he taught us through the power of allegory and parable,” Peele said.

“I felt that I attempted to do justice to his legacy that it could do some good. 'The Twilight Zone' is a show worthy of fighting for.”

Get out (of the White House)

Unsurprisingly, this isn’t the first time Peele has criticised President Trump.

He’s used social media as a platform to speak out against the administration.

In an interview with CBS’s ‘Sunday Morning’ last year Peele called Trump a racist, commenting, “I'm disheartened by policies that are xenophobic and sexist…there are many strides backwards every day.”

“What does give me hope is, you know, so Obama used to say, you know, 'Progress isn't always a straight line." Which -- who knows how true it is? But I believe it."

In 2018, Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Buzzfeed teamed up to create an incredibly realistic ‘Deep Fake’ of Obama, using Peele’s uncanny impersonation of the former president.

Peele took the viral video as an opportunity to warn people of the threat modern technology poses to accurate news reporting...and to insult Trump.
