Unfinished T20 business for Aussie women

Without silverware for the first time since 2009, the Australian women's cricket team will have "unfinished business" at the upcoming World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies.

Coach Matthew Mott says Australia are hungry to make amends for two years of frustration at major tournaments ahead of their World T20 opener against Pakistan in Guyana on Friday.

The Australian women are without a trophy to their name for the first time in nine years after a dramatic 2016 T20 World Cup final loss to West Indies and a shock 2017 ODI World Cup semi-final exit.

They appear to have regained their Midas touch, winning 19 of 24 matches across all formats in the past 12 months.

Mott said his side was now determined to show they could still do it on the big stage.

"I think there's almost a sense of unfinished business over the last couple of years," he said.

"We've played some really good cricket, particularly in the last eight to 10 months but we're very hungry to get a world crown back.

"I think this group's at a place now where they're really ready to show the world how well they're playing.

"(But) it's important it all comes together over the next couple of weeks, we've got some tough round matches to start with."

Australia's 15-strong squad have arrived in Guyana for Tuesday's final warm-up match against South Africa.

They will be based in Guyana for their four round matches over the next fortnight.

"I think we've taken a long time to get to this spot after a couple of World Cup exits where we probably weren't playing that fearless cricket," Mott said.

"That was a bit of an eye opener for everyone and made us more determined to get that right.

"You can see in the last (12 months) with the freedom the players are playing with."

Australia are only visiting the West Indies for the third time since 1976 and the first time since their 2010 T20 World Cup triumph.
