A man who stalked a young Melbourne woman on Instagram after she rebuffed his advances tried to cover his tracks by offering to help her find who was responsible.
Mark Riley, 33, met his 21-year-old victim at a bar where he worked and they later met a handful of times and exchanged messages, though his were more often ignored than answered, County Court Judge Frank Gucciardo revealed.
Riley was sentenced to 10 months' jail on Wednesday for what he called a "stupid game" involving sending the woman Instagram messages from fake accounts and attempting to blackmail her, before claiming to have a friend who could help find the stalker.
