35th anniversary since the fall of the Berlin Wall

Published
Berlin's division was a result of Germany's defeat in the second World War, the country divided into four zones of occupation, the West under the United States, Britain and France, the East under the Soviet Union. To keep citizens in the East, the Berlin Wall went up in 1961 with no prior warning – and it would take nearly three decades to see it fall. Reporter Jennifer Scherer is in Berlin as part of a research trip hosted by the German Federal Foreign Office in co-operation with the National Press Club of Australia.
