The prime minister was among the world leaders to greet the Pope after his inaugural mass. The Vatican gathering was an opportunity for Anthony Albanese and Volodymyr Zelenskyy to meet face-to-face; the Australian prime minister promising Ukraine more military support. EU Commission chair Ursula von der Leyen also made a pitch to boost defence ties with Australia.
