Australian journalist says interviews with foreigners viewed by Beijing as 'unwise' and 'dangerous'

Published
ABC journalist, Bill Birtles, has said he felt like a 'pawn in a diplomatic tussel' during his last days in China. Mr Birtles described the moment seven Chinese police officials knocked on his door at midnight to say they wanted to speak to him about a state security case, and he was not allowed to leave China. During his interview with Chinese officials, he said it felt like the purpose was more to do with 'harrasment', and not to get any useful information from him regarding the state case.
