Calls to improve housing standards as natural disasters loom

Changes to the National Construction Code to make new homes more resilient to extreme weather could save an estimated 4 billion dollars a year. The Centre for International Economics also warns a lack of intervention will see repair costs for homeowners double by 2050, but experts say the proposal could pose its own challenges.
