China authorities say Australia opposes Taiwan's independence – Anthony Albanese reacts

The Prime Minister has travelled to the Great Wall of China, to declare it's in the national interest for Australia to have a positive relationship with Beijing. After eight hours of official meetings with the highest level authorities in the one-party state, the interpretations of some critical issues appear to diverge. SBS understands Anthony Albanese did reaffirm Australia's endorsement of the long-standing status quo policy on Taiwan but did not state direct opposition to Taiwan's independence, which is how Chinese State authorities reported the meeting.
