Community-led housing brings culturally safe living to Tennant Creek
Published
The Wilya Janta Housing Corporation, an Aboriginal-led organisation, has opened its first display home in the Northern Territory. The house was designed in collaboration with the local Wumpurani people — empowering them to choose what kind of place they want to live in rather than having public houses built for them by the government. There's hope that the house in Tennant Creek can be a prototype that delivers culturally safe and environmentally friendly remote housing in Indigenous communities around Australia.
