Data centre growth must be sustainable, say new federal guidelines

As the use of Artificial Intelligence surges around the world, the number of data centres required to power the technology, is also growing rapidly. Sydney and Melbourne are among the largest data centre markets in the Asia Pacific Region, and construction in Australia is set to boom even further. Data centres currently consume about two per cent of Australia's grid-supplied electricity, but that share is expected to triple by 2030. Now, the government is laying out a plan aiming to ensure sustainability, as investment in data centres grows.
