Federal Government buy back Gigalitres of Murray Darling Basin water

Australia's Water Minister Tanya Plibersek has completed the first Commonwealth water buybacks in the Murray-Darling Basin since 2020. The buybacks mean more than 26 gigalitres of water that typically would be used for farming will now stay in the rivers and be used to boost the environment at an estimated cost of $205 million.
