Germany's Scholz hopes for a three-way coalition government by Christmas

Olaf Scholz, the German Social Democrat (SPD) candidate looks set to succeed Chancellor Angela Merkel. Germany faces months of tough negotiations to form a coalition government after the federal election, with three parties needing to team up to clear the threshold of 50 per cent of seats in the Bundestag, or German Parliament.
