Government fails to rush new immigration laws through parliament

A controversial law, which would allow the immigration minister to jail non-citizens who refuse to be deported, has been stalled until May. It's a major political blow for Labor, as it tries to get ahead of a looming High Court decision that could see hundreds of people released from immigration detention.
