Government ministers have vowed to deter illegal fishing and smuggling boats from Australian waters

Federal and state ministers have visited the Torres Strait in a bid to reassure the community, after more than a dozen Indonesian fishing boats were intercepted in Australian waters this year. A major inter-governmental operation is underway. Border Force boats, planes and personnel are in the region to tackle illegal fishing, drug, and people smuggling, along with biosecurity risks.
